Looking for Tomorrow’s Talent Today

Construction isn’t a materials or machinery business – it’s a people business. That’s why at The Old Dominion Group there’s nothing more important than building and growing our team. We’re always on the lookout for new talent, and because of the wide variety of work we do, there’s a role for just about anyone interested in beginning, or accelerating, their career in the construction industry.

We recently had the honor of participating in two recruiting events where we got to meet some incredibly talented and enthusiastic young people who were looking to start a career in the trades.

In our Old Dominion Firestopping Nashville location, Branch Manager, Justin Shedd, along with Project Manager, Heath Backus, and VP of Marketing and Business Development, Rich Lee, led a virtual career day with students at Middle Tennessee State University. Heath is an alum of MTSU and one of our top young talents in the company. He reached out to his department head to help get the event put together. We had the opportunity to present information about The Old Dominion Group to about 30 students via Zoom.

Our own experience told us that General Contractors tend to dominate the college career fair space, and we felt it was important to educate the soon-to-be-graduates on the vital role subcontractors play in the building process as well as in the many unique career opportunities that exist when you join a Sub. We stressed the hands-on experience, focus on career development, and ability to play a larger role on projects that even entry-level employees enjoy at a subcontractor like ODG. The possibilities were eye-opening for the group, and we are excited about the follow-up conversations that we’re having with some of the students who were interested in learning more.

Back in Virginia, we were thrilled to partner with the Chesterfield Career and Technical Center for their Interview Day for the Trades Virtual Event.

The CCTC students, most of whom have yet to enter the job market, had the opportunity to learn about about some of our affiliate companies through one-on-one interviews with our Project Managers. Each interviewee was walked through a career path for someone entering the trades – from helper all the way up to supervisor.

Interview Day was a lot of fun for us as well. It was a blast getting to meet such bright and motivated young people. We’re excited for what the future holds with the next generation of talent!

We’re always looking to connect with talented folks, no matter where they are in their career. If you’re interested in learning more about working for The Old Dominion Group, check out our Careers Page or contact us at Careers@OldDominion.Group.
